Unit 5 - Lesson 4 - Prove and apply trigonometric identities

Lesson Standards
  • Prove the Pythagorean identity (sin A)2 + (cos A)2 = 1 and use it to find sin A, cos A, or tan A, given sin A, cos A, or tan A, and the quadrant of the angle. 

Essential Questions

  • Explain how you can apply the Pythagorean Theorem to a right triangle in quadrant one of the unit circle.
  • Given the Pythagorean identity use arithmetic to solve for sin2, cos2, and tan2.

Students:
Complete the worksheets using the lesson videos and notes videos.  I suggest that you work in groups to solve the problems since these problems can be challenging to solve.  You can find the answers, try at least three different strategies and Don't Give Up!!
